Unseen A Novel Will Trent Karin Slaughter 9780345539472 Books

I was looking forward to this book, and for the most part, I thought the book lived up to my expectations. The story was a thrill ride like one can always expect from Karin Slaughter.

It was good to see some favourite characters return to the scene and as with previous books by this author, it is impossible to figure everything out until the very end. One of the things that I particularly enjoyed about this novel, was how deep and complex the plot becomes by the time you are half way through the book. There are so many things going on that leave you questioning everything you think you have figured out, but it never becomes confusing.

There were a couple of spots where I thought the dialogue seemed a bit dry. Whereas in previous books it was blazing, in this one I actually found some of it to be a bit overdrawn, but it didn't interfere all that much with my enjoyment of the book.

In the realm of crime novels, Karen Slaughter is most certainly proving once more that she is queen. There is a bit of graphic content in this book, which didn't bother me, but might offend some people. I thought it was handled well.

If you have been waiting for the release of this book, you will not be disappointed.

This review is based on a digital ARC from the publisher and Netgalley.

Unseen A Novel Will Trent Karin Slaughter 9780345539472 Books Reviews

Unseen takes us back to Sara's past. Lena Adams reenters the picture with a big bang!

These two women have never liked each other and with a good reason. Sara still holds Lena responsible for the events occurring in Beyond Reach.

Lena lives in Macon. She's now married to Jared Long, Jeffrey's son. She's doing great at her job and she's the lead in a new investigation. She's working with a snitch before taking down a big fish when everything goes wrong. This prompts an investigation by Internal Affairs. Then, Jared gets gunned down at their home and is fighting for his life.

Nell, Jared's mom calls Sara for support. Sara is furious with Lena because once again someone's life is in danger because of her.

As for Will, he goes undercover as Bill Black to Macon, Georgia. He's in the middle of the case gone wrong and his life is very much in danger too.

I felt bad for Will. He was in a tough spot. He was undercover and had to hide things from Sara. He knew this could lead to him losing her. After all, she had already lost someone when placed in a dangerous situation by Lena. Yet, he couldn't walk away either.

"You can tell me to go, but I won't. I'll sleep in my car outside your house. I'll follow you to work. To the gym. If you go out to dinner, I'll be at the next table. If you go to a movie, I'll be in the row behind you."

As always, Sara was great in Unseen. She was there for Will when he needed it the most. She supported Jared's family. She helped whoever needed it. Yes, she was mean to Lena once but then Lena returned the favor in spades.

“Now you know how it feels.”

Ugh Lena, can you keep your mouth shut for one second? It's like she's incapable of behaving. I mean the woman has improved. She's a good detective or at least her team thinks so. She's trying to work things out with Jared, her husband. She's trying to follow her superior's commands but she's unable to behave in front of Sara. Twice she was awful to her, once with her words and once with her thoughts.

“Sara Linton’s sixty-five-thousand-dollar BMW had been turned into the world’s most expensive Rubik’s Cube.”

I think she just envies Sara too much. Anyway, that's my two cents about Lena. I'm sure we haven't seen the end of her in this series.

Overall, I think Unseen is yet another great addition to the Will Trent series.

Cliffhanger No

4.5/5 Fangs
As usual, Slaughter wastes no time diving right into the deep end - and dragging me with her! The chaos begins right away in Chapter one - my heart is already breaking, racing out of my chest. Stepping inside one of these books is like stepping on to the train tracks, with the train racing straight at you. It's insanely intense, graphic, and yet totally mesmerizing, hypnotic. Even with the train running you down, you can not look away or get out of the way.

Will, Sara, Faith, Amanda, Lena, as well as some other familiar and also new characters are all caught up in a Perfect Storm - the kind that surrounds you on all sides and pounds you over & over, on and on, leaving devastation and destruction in its wake. All hell breaks loose. Lives are irrevocably changed, family members are buried and still no one can figure out who's running the show. There's so many layers to this story - just when you think you might have a handle on it, something changes and another piece of the puzzle drops into place.

Unseen is shocking & intense, as revelations are revealed. There are strange moments of kindness between some odd bedfellows, and there are moments of unforgivable betrayals and unbelievable cruelty delved out at the hands of a monster. Who is Mr. Whitey? What kind of cruel game is he playing? Who brought this horrible devastation down on them? Who will survive it?!

In my opinion, some of the best, life altering scenes of the series occur in Unseen Lena & Sara - OMG! It's been a long time coming! Will & Sara - Wow...left me speechless & hurt my heart while others made me smile - nothing comes easy for this couple! Lena & Jared - heartbreaking, what in the world happened? Before I finished this story, a few characters really stepped up to surprise me - a few hatchets are buried, a little forgiveness is offered, and some declarations of love are made.

The only thing I could find wrong with this book is that now I have to wait for the next release in the series. Unseen goes on my Favorites shelf. A Page Burner. A Must Read. This series ranks in my top 5 series of all time. It touches me in so many different ways.
